Kanthapara Waterfall is one of Wayanad’s most beautiful and least crowded natural attractions. Located near Meppadi — the heart of Wayanad’s spice growing region — it sits surrounded by coffee and pepper plantations, making the journey to the falls as scenic as the waterfall itself.

Where Is Kanthapara Waterfall?

Kanthapara is located approximately 3 kilometres from Meppadi town, in the Wayanad Rippon area of Kerala. It is about 20 kilometres from Kalpetta (the district headquarters) and easily reachable from any major hotel or resort in the Vythiri-Meppadi-Lakkidi belt.

How to Reach Kanthapara

From Kalpetta: Take the road towards Meppadi (approximately 16 km). From Meppadi town, take the local road towards Wayanad Rippon. The waterfall area is accessible by car or two-wheeler up to a point, after which a short walk of about 500 metres through a plantation brings you to the falls.

From Calicut (Kozhikode): Approximately 90 kilometres via the Lakkidi Ghat road. The drive up through the ghats takes about 2 hours and is one of the most scenic routes in Kerala.

Best Time to Visit

Kanthapara is most impressive between July and January when the monsoon and post-monsoon flow fills the falls completely. The months of August to October have the highest water volume. Between February and May, the flow reduces significantly.

The area is green and beautiful year-round due to the plantation surroundings, so even the drier months offer a pleasant visit.

What to Expect at Kanthapara

Unlike major tourist spots, Kanthapara is relatively uncrowded — especially on weekdays. The waterfall is multi-tiered, falling through rocky terrain surrounded by wild vegetation. There is a natural pool at the base where visitors can wade in. The path to the falls passes through working spice and coffee plantations — you will smell pepper vines and coffee blossoms depending on the season.
