Tea is the most popular type of tea in the West, most likely due to its bold flavor and long shelf life. Tea leaves are allowed to fully oxidize before being processed and dried, which makes the leaves dark brown and gives the tea its signature flavor profile.
1. What is orthodox tea

Orthodox black tea is processed using traditional methods: withering, rolling, oxidising and drying whole leaves to preserve their natural shape and flavour complexity.

Unlike CTC granules made for quick, very strong chai, orthodox leaves infuse more slowly and give a layered, nuanced taste.
2. Taste & cup profile

Produces a clear amber/golden liquor with medium body, floral or malty notes depending on origin, and a smooth finish with less bitterness than CTC.

Ideal for people who enjoy sipping tea plain or with just a dash of milk and sugar or lemon.
3. How to brew

Use 1 teaspoon (2–2.5 g) per cup.

Pour just‑boiled water (90–95°C), steep 3–4 minutes, then strain.

Drink plain, with a squeeze of lemon, or with a little milk (avoid over‑boiling with milk like CTC chai).
4. Positioning & uses

Market as a “premium sipping tea” or “evening/anytime tea” rather than cutting‑chai; good with biscuits, cake and light snacks.
